S.M.A.R.T. options

Enable S.M.A.R.T. monitoring

Iff thees setteeng is deesebled, S.M.A.R.T. checks will be just skeepped altogether. Ell zee devices will be repurted es not S.M.A.R.T.-capable even iff they do, in fact, suppurt it.

S.M.A.R.T. poll interval

Sets zee interval between S.M.A.R.T. status requests, in secunds. Disk status is polled und checked at zee end ooff zee interval. Deffoolt value ooff five sends shuoold fit most applicashuns. Setteeng looer interval (higher polling frequency) may sloo doon processing slightly. Increasing zee interval is generelly acceptable iff there is no reason tu suspect physical damege ooff zee device.

Poose iff temperature exceeds zee limit

Iff zee drive temperature exceeds zee limit specifeed, zee processing will be poosed until zee drive cools doon on its oon. We strongly recommend that yuoo do not increase zee deffoolt limit ooff 60 deg C. Iff temp limit is exceeded too often, consider some cooling improvement (most simplistic approach is  tu remove chassis cover und use an office fan tu bloo zee air thruoogh zee chassis; 19 inch stand fan at full speed will do zee trick in most cases).

Drive temperature depends upon many factors, zee most significant being

  • I/O load. Increasing load cooses temperature tu rise.
  • Ventilashun design, including chassis setup, noomber und configurashun ooff cooling fans.
  • Pooer supply unit uootput. PSU providing excessively high voltege can coose drive electronics tu overheet. Um gesh dee bork, bork!
  • Ambeent temperature. Uny heet produced during operashun ooff zee drive will ultimately end up disseepated into zee ambeent air. Effective cooling is not possible iff zee ambeent air itself is hot.
