Options common to all filsystems

Quick scan mode

In certain cases, ZAR can recover a filesystem without a need to perform a full scan off the volume. This may provide significant (up to ten times) speed boost compared to the traditional "read all" analysis.

Quick scan mode activates automatically if certain conditions are met. It works with NTFS volumes only. In case ZAR detects that the data gathered during the quick scan is not enough for a filesystem reconstruction, it will revert to the full scan automatically.

Quick scan mode is inhibited if any of the following conditions are met

  • RAID or Digital Image recovery run is performed
  • The filesystem type override is in effect and the specified filesystem type is other than NTFS

Default setting is Automatic. When set to Disabled, quick  scan mode will not activate regardless of the volume condition.

You should disable quick scan mode if you are recovering FAT volume which was accidentally formatted to NTFS.

Cluster factor detection threshold

This is a technical parameter and should be set at 80%. Do not modify it unless explicitly asked to do so by support personnel.

Filter empty files and directories

With this option enabled, empty (sized 0 bytes) files and empty directories (containing no files and subdirectories) will be filtered from the results.

Filter known useless files

Filters out certain files which are known to be of little or no value. The full list of filtered entries follows:
  • ~*.tmp files - various temporary files
  • ~$*.doc - Microsoft Word temporary files
  • ~wrl*.tmp - Microsoft Word temporary files
  • System Volume Information files
  • $MFT, $Boot, $Volume, $Quota and similar NTFS system files.

Our customers say

I had deleted the pics on my camera's memory card and then was shocked to find out later that I had accidentally deleted the file on my computer where my pics were. I searched Cnet and TuCows for flash recovery software but they either cost money or were restricted in their functions. Zero Assumption recovered all the pictures that I had on my flash card including even older ones that I had deleted a long time ago. The recovered pictures were the original size. It was simple to use with only one sole purpose - to rescue those lost files. I was saved by this program and trust me if you want recover deleted pictures from your flash card, you should download this program. It is free and it works.
